Sunnyvale is a great city in the State of California. This is rated to as the 7th most populous city in San Francisco Bay Area. This is part of the cities that makes up the Silicon Valley, bordering Mountain View to the west, Santa Clara to the east, San Jose to the north and Cupertino to the South. The city is along the famous Highway 101 and El Camino Real. Silicon Valley is known to be a high-tech area and Sunnyvale is an integral part of it. As a matter of fact, most of technology companies have their headquarters in this city and others have major operating centers in Sunnyvale.
The Department of Public Safety is a single unit and all the personnel are trained as police officers, firefighters and EMTs. As such, when there is an emergency, they can be able to respond swiftly, without any delays. This is one of the few cities in the United States to have such an arrangement. The Sunnyvale Public Library is located at the Sunnyvale Civic Center and provides library services to all the people in the city. On August 25, 2012, the city marked its 100th anniversary, with great celebrations.
A good number of defense and aerospace companies have also found their home in the city of Sunnyvale. Onizuka Air Force Station was one of the key attractions in this city. This is the known as the Blue Cube due to the shape and color of the main building, which is windowless. This building is named after Ellison Onizuka, who was a Space Shuttle Challenger astronaut. Previously, it will was known as Sunnyvale Air Force Station. This served as the United States armed forces air satellite control facility, up to August 2010, when it was decommissioned.
There have been serious redevelopment projects on the streets of downtown Sunnyvale. This was the key reason why part of the sections that were closed, were reopened. This happened in 2009, which was the first time in 30 years for vehicles and pedestrians to use these streets. This is mainly due to the Sunnyvale Town Center mall. The exterior works of residential buildings on Washington Avenue and McKinley Avenue also started in 2009.
